Acupuncture is an act of veterinary surgery; as such it may only be performed by a veterinary surgeon. Our acupuncture vets are practicing members of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists and treats patients from across the South East of England.
Acupuncture is used at The Clinic to treat and relieve pain caused by arthritis and other diseases. Acupuncture sessions typically last for 30 minutes and involve the placement of fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points across the body. The placement of these needles encourages the patient to relax and release the body’s natural painkillers; endorphins and serotonin.
Acupuncture is a good complementary therapy in conjunction with more conventional treatments for pain, like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Or as an alternative therapy if conventional treatments are not working or the animal is too ill to receive them.
Treatment usually consists of an initial course of 4 weekly sessions, to be followed by single top up treatments as required.
