Sophie Bosch MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon, Clinical Lead

I am very excited to be leading the clinical team of Shinfield Vets as the new Clinical Lead Vet. I graduated from the Utrecht University in the Netherlands in 2012. I always had a big dream to work as a wildlife vet and soon after graduating I moved to Africa to work in a wildlife rescue center. I ended up spending about 3 years travelling through Africa and Asia rescuing all sorts of wild animals (Great Apes, smaller primates, big cats, bears, pangolins, antelopes, reptiles, birds and many more) from the illegal wildlife trade, rehabilitating them back to normal health and releasing them back into the wild again. This was a very rewarding time in my life.

Due to personal circumstances I had to return back home and I put my focus on my professional development as a Small Animal Vet. I ended up moving to the UK 5 years ago because here they have great post-graduate opportunities. I worked in various small animal practices and developed a compassionate and mindful approach of handling and treating, particularly fearful, animals using techniques to reduce stress to a minimum which I learned from working with wild animals. I also have a special interest in soft tissue surgery, ultrasonography and I am keen to work up cases to the best of my abilities. I still have a big soft spot for helping wild and exotic animals which encouraged me to start studying towards a post-graduate certificate in Exotic Animal Medicine last year and I am hoping to complete this in the next few years.

I live locally with my partner and our daughter. My cat Flo lives in the Netherlands with my parents and I always look forward visiting them whenever I can. In my free time I love to go for a swim and being outdoors when the sun is out.

I will be looking forward to welcoming you and your pets, including your exotic pets, into the practice.
