Katy Garlick BScVN RVN Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse

After graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013, I returned to my home town of Reading and joined the team at Shinfield Vets. I have always enjoyed the company of animals and my cat Koko is certainly part of my family. Many owners have the same family bond with their pets, so I constantly aspire to improve the nursing care we provide, as I would expect nothing less for my own pets.

Since graduating, I have completed numerous courses to improve my skills.  Most recently, I gained a British Veterinary Nursing Association Certificate in Veterinary Nursing Wound Management and before this a Rabbit Awareness course supported by the RAWF association. I am now due to start a course in dermatology nursing.

I also have a particular interest in the public image and advancement of the nursing profession, and have published research on the subject.

Outside of work, I volunteer with the local RSPCA cats branch, helping organise the cats treatment getting them ready for forever homes. Most of all I look forward to time away with my family, we frequently escape the busy life of Reading to Swanage in Dorset, our much loved second home.
